wow I admire all your new year's resolutions! I am too lazy to bother with 'em, I have to say :=) At my ancient age, I just get on with things as best I can. All the best to you for 2025! And go get 'em, tiger!

cheers

You have certainly worked out a detailed plan and list for the year which perfectly compliments your word Accomplish. I bow down in awe!

I am nowhere near as organised and usually fail desperately with my To Do lists.

Well, returning all borrowed farm equipment is definitely a resolution I could keep, Jo. I may save that one for next year though. I love the reference to Festival of Self-improvement. That sounds a lot funner than to-do lists and SMART goals. In all seriousness, though, I wish you the best of luck with your intention to ACCOMPLISH so much this year and all the practical to-do lists, action plans, and resolutions that support that intention. Happy 2025!

No word of the year. If I did, it would be doddle, or pootle, coddiwomple or womble. Something to describe what I mostly feel I would like to do rather than getting caught up in the must-do/should-do's.

After this last 18 months, with son diagnosed with a life-threatening lung disease, then me with two bowel resections and my dog passing away, I figure every day of life is for living and a part of it to be filled with joy and gratitude. No specifics, just broadly speaking.

And boy oh boy, can we have the recipe for those gorgeous choc cookies you showed on the other media, please? Absolutely yummo!

Well, returning borrowed farm equipment is a solid new year's resolution! And so is your word of the year, and not boring at all. I was hovering over "gratitude" as a word of the year but really wanted something more actionable since after some hard times I want to get out of my bubble and truly participate in life. (Ok, not today when it's 1C and heavy rain)

I think you have a good plan going to work towards your goals. I should make that type of to-do list myself for business!

Hi, Jo - I loved this post so much - your characteristic warm and witty writing style, your candor...and those really cool tidbits about Ancient Babylon. Returning borrowed farm equipment? Seriously, who knew?

I don't believe that 'Accomplish' is a boring word at all. It is packed full with purpose, planning, possibility, potential and pride. That's lots of 'meat' for one litte word. Wishing you a year of fabulous checkmarks ahead!

Hi Jo, well done on being so organised!! I'm very impressed at your commitment and goal setting so accomplish is a great word for you! It may not have pizzaz (neither does my word this year) but it means something to you so that's the biggest thing going for it. Knowing you as i do, you will accomplish anything you put your mind to! Now checking out the Migoals planner et al!

Like the idea of the list - might try that.

There is nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment when you check something off a To-Do list! I think it's a great word since it evokes success rather than merely trying to reach a goal.

Hi Jo - I think Accomplish is a very challenging Word - it requires commitment, and performance, and accountability - all the things that ask you to step up and meet your goals. Good on you for aiming big and having a plan to get there. Go you!

Accomplish is definitely not boring. Maybe some of the behind the scenes stuff is like decluttering closets but the overall feeling means "moving and doing" and in my words "GETTING SHIT DONE". Do you use SMART goals as a way to measure the accomplishments? I always find that helpful if I can break it down.

I am struggling with my WOTY and motivation right now (well sort of) as I just can't seem to "accomplish" the things I think I want to do....I need to sit down and work on some more specific goals I think.

I almost used JFDI as my word of the year - Just Flipping (this is a PG-rated substack lol) Do It... but getting shit done covers it as well.

My big goals I do as SMART ie my 30kgs loss. Everything else I run as a task-based project - yes, you can take the girl out of the project manager role, but you can't take the project manager out of the girl. My writing I run as a "program" of projects.

I use my astrology for the year too to come up with my words of the year - eg last year was a heavy Saturn year and that's all about knuckling down and building structures, and this year is much the same.

Hi Jo, Accomplish is not a boring word. When I hear it I feel determined and motivated. I love all of the resources and tools you are using to accomplish your intentions and goals for 2025. I'm sure you will be ticking off quite a few of those boxes in 2025. xx

Thanks Sue... I was after something with a bit of pizazz, but, well, I guess I'll think it's not so boring when I'm ticking off those tasks.

I love you goal to take March off and travel to UK. I don't find accomplish a boring word at all. I usually have boring words, but I think if they mean something to the person, they're probably not boring. Build was the perfect word for you last year and I think Accomplish is perfect to continue your progress

Yeah, my intention is not to take my laptop with me - but that will only work if I have everything ready to go for the 2nd Whale Bay. If I write when I'm away I'll do it the old fashioned way.

That’s a long list of prospective accomplishments Jo, and I know you will feel a great sense of satisfaction as you tick them off. I always read and enjoy your posts but this is the first time I have commented on yours. My aim this year is to actually start posting on my Substack page instead of only reading others’. Happy 2025!
