I've read these Christian White books. He does a great twist. His first book The Nowhere Child is my favourite - and yes there's a twist. I tend to steer away from books that address the death of a child. And as for the death of a pet. If I think there's a death coming, that's it for me. I'm done. congrats on the podcast. Will be listening tomorrow.
Loved reading about Sarah's book interests now. I'm much more about listening (sometimes accompanied by a kindle version) to my books on Audible & I'm in midst of wrapping up Jacinda Adern's memoir (she narrates & any author narrating own book is a WIN!) and Hannah Kent's amazing memoir too- again she narrates. Always passed on Hannah's fiction but now I know the full story of Hannah, Iceland & more I may listen to Burial Rites. And I've been (still going!) very much soothed & helped out of my burnout thanks to some clever & kind writers who are medicos
Understand your views about ditching a book where a child or pet dies.
And not a Wind in The Willows fan - maybe too much like study from year 7 at HS...
Always glad for your book recommendations. How exciting that Sarah is enjoying reading. Both of my daughters were kind of slow to embrace reading for pleasure. Maybe just because when they were in school they had enough with reading textbooks, fiction for classes, etc.
I pinned The Wife and the Widow for consideration with the book club. I am finishing the first of your Philly books and I am soooo enjoying reading it. I often stay awake after it's lights out for PC and read a little longer on my Kindle. Can't wait to see how everything comes together in the end...including Robbie and Philly, maybe?
Thanks for the reminder of the latest Richard Osman novel. I enjoyed the TMC series a lot and was thrilled when I read that he was writing something else (as I understand it, he will write another TMC soon). I hadn't seen the reviews but, like you said, who cares? I will add it to my library list now!
You are the second person who’s mentioned The Hit Woman’s Guide. The title would certainly lead one to believe it’s a humorous account rather than how dark it actually is. I appreciate the heads up and will avoid this one. I likely would have picked it up based on the title alone.
Hi, Jo - How cool that Sarah is now recommending books to you, and that you are enjoying her recommendations as well!
I add my thanks for all of the leadership and detailed work that you put into making the Classics BookClub Podcast happen. I really enjoyed the discussion! <3
I agree the cover was trying to lure in a different market. I did sort of like it at the end, tho it's really odd all the way through. It was very upsetting, and unexpectedly so. I know it's not popular but I do think some books need a trigger warning..
Hi Jo, The Wife and The Widow plus the Robert Goddard book will be going on my list TBR. I have been reading less but really studying the books for Book Club which I've enjoyed. Well done on the podcast. It is an exciting project for us and great to have our first episode airing. Thanks for all your 'behind the scenes' work too. Enjoy your weekend! Sue L xx
I really liked the latest Richard Osman too. The Wife and the Widow sounds good.

but I commend your book club's diligence!
Thanks Denyse. We've found that many of our re-reads as adults have been completely different experiences from when read as children or teenagers.
I like that notion from your group too. I, sadly, tried reading my FAVE of all times The Magic Faraway Tree as an adult & the magic just wasn't there!

So many good books to add to my list Jo!! Thanks for getting us to the podcast stage, it was great to relisten to our chat!

I actually liked We Solve Murders BETTER than the Thursday Murder Club!
